A Tribute of Sorts

My big brother, Adam, is graduating today with his Masters degree in somethingicouldnevergetminein, from UF. I am proud of him.

It is strange because we are six years apart but sometimes it seems like we were kids just yesterday. You know, wrestling when Mom and Dad went out and he was babysitting us, watching parts movies over and over again and laughing until it hurt, playing SuperNintendo until dinner just about every day after school, and him and Andi ganging up on me for various pranks and ploys. But now we are sorta grown up, he is almost thirty (and I will continue to seize every opportunity to remind him of that as possible) and I have had a premature quarter-life crisis. The best part of it all is, he insisted on picking on me on Thanksgiving and Dad had to run interference, we watch the same movies and laugh over and over again, and we plan on hooking my Wii up for Christmas festivities... somethings never change.

But aside from the goofy and typical brother and sister antics we are always up to... I love him. I know life has been difficult lately and he has been there for me, more then he probably realizes. Him and his wife Michelle, were at my "bad counts" treatment early on and it meant more to me then words can express. I know it had to be hard for him seeing me in that fateful green recliner that he saw Andrea in. No big brother should see this sort of thing twice. But I am happy that today I get to see him graduate from college for the second time... I am willing to see him graduate from college a hundred more times.

He is such a smart man it kills me. He has an unbelievable capacity and will change this world when he is given the chance. I know I seem like an idealistic little sister, but he is seriously smart. Sometimes so smart he needs me to be his ambassador for his ridiculous comments (Adam- the ups store...). We get each other, no matter how resistant we want to be to that idea, we do. When you live with someone for as long as we did, I mean he had to deal with Cabbage Patch Dolls, Barbies, New Kids on the Block, my million soccer tournaments, Hanson, Harry Potter... I mean we are covering at least a decade here- haha! You learn to love and understand who the other person is. The thing with siblings is... it takes you both growing up a little bit to realize how much they mean to you.

I have heard it said, "be nice to your siblings, they are the best key to your past, and will always be there for your future." I now understand that saying... it is right. Your siblings are the friends you can never get rid of- they are the best kind of friend to have. Congratulations Adam! I am proud of you now and always. I love you, we love you (Mom and Dad too!), and know that a life of happiness is what you deserve...

Sister.

Thanks for checking in with me...

PS: 5 days until I am done with treatment!!
